The Squam Lakes Association (SLA) maintains 50-miles of hiking trails in the mountains surrounding the Squam Lakes by cleaning waterbars, clearing brush and blowdowns and constructing new stairs, waterbars, bridges, and step stones.

SLA Trail Adopters

There are over 40 SLA Trail Adopters and the maintenance of the trails in the Squam Lakes region depends on their dedication. Thanks to all the Trail Adopters for the great work on SLA Trails!

SLA Trail Adopters maintain trails by clearing debris from the waterbars, clearing vegetation along the trails, and completing a trail report. The trail report is used to assess trail maintenance needs, including: trail reconstruction, approximate location of blowdowns, and missing signs or blazes. Volunteer time is also used as a matching source for grants.
