Trail 1 - SLA to Moon & Bowman Islands

Round trip = 4 miles Paddling time = 1:30

This moderate 4 mile paddle is exposed to the predominant west and northwest winds; check the weather before heading out. Use caution between Piper Cove and Potato Island, as this is a major boat traffic area.

From Piper Cove head northeast (30°) to the red buoy off Potato Island, then head east (85°) to the channel between Moon and Bowman Islands. There is a dock and a beach at the southwest side of Moon Is., and there are several small beaches along the north shore.

Bowman Is. has one small beach and a dock on the northeast side and a dock at the group campsite. Although Bowman Is. lacks Moon's sandy beaches, it is a great place to find solitude. From Sunset Ledge on Bowman Is. head west (265°) passing Diamond Ledge to Sunset Point. Follow the shoreline around Sunset Point to Piper Cove and SLA Headquarters.
