Squam Wildlife

The Squam Lakes were the first in the state of New Hampshire to conduct a loon census, and to have a biologist on the lakes full time. The result is the longest, most complete study of loons in the world.

Eagles sucessfully htached on Squam Lake in 2003, the first time in over 70 years. The SLA is working with other local conservation organizations to protect the eagles.

The Loon Preservation Committee's Executive Director, Harry Vogel said, "The loon data becomes more valuable with each passing year. The Loon Preservation Committee is glad be working with the Squam Lakes Association, and have its assistance in continuing this valuable study.

The SLA Wildlife Committee is publishing the Squam Wildlife Guide in the spring of 2005.
