Where: SLA Fisher Family Youth Activity Barn, US Route 3 Holderness

On Saturday, October 8 from 9:30 to 11:30 am, the Squam Lakes Association (SLA) will host a Fall Celebration at the Fisher Family Activity Barn. The SLA has seen a number of changes recently that are worthy of celebration. The event will be the first opportunity for SLA members and the Squam community to welcome new executive director EB James. Secondly, the SLA has recently completed a bridge connecting the Resource Center to the Fisher Family Activity Barn.

The festivities will commence at 9:30am with coffee, hot apple cider and local apples and donuts. At 10:00, the ribbon cutting for the new bridge will take place. “The bridge is an exciting addition to the SLA facilities,” says Youth Program Manager Jenne Walker. “We will be able to safely utilize the barn for many more activities, especially for our youth programming, now that we don’t have to walk along Route 3 to access it.”

Along with opening the new bridge and welcoming EB James, a number of other activities will be occurring. The Fisher Family Activity Barn has a climbing wall, constructed this spring for summer youth programs. SLA staff will have the climbing wall open for attendees to scale the inside wall of the barn. SLA will also offer free afternoon canoe and kayak rentals for members who attend the gathering. For those who are not yet members, $25 will provide both a membership and a boat rental for the afternoon. “This is the final weekend of the year for boat rental operations,” says Brett Durham, SLA ’s Director of Recreation. “With the leaves changing and a free afternoon rental, this is a great chance to take one last paddle on Squam.”

For individuals interested in supporting the bridge, there will be opportunity to Purchase a Plank. For a minimum donation of $50, supporters of this project will see their name, or a name in memoriam, routed on the planks of the new bridge.
