Junior Squam Lakes Association - Camp Director

The Camp Director will assist the Director of Education in all programmatic, safety, and administrative components of camp. The Camp Director will supervise the daily operations of camp and directly supervise the overnight portion of the JSLA AND CYSP Program. The Camp Director will assist in the administrative aspects of camp: oversee the health and safety of campers and sailors; communicate with parents; assist in the supervision of summer camp staff and high-school aged volunteers; and help summer camp staff with program planning and substitute teach when needed. The Camp Director will be the primary responsible staff member and is expected to participate in the overnight portion of the program scheduled for Thursday nights. The Camp Director will also supervise Adult Sailing on Wednesday evenings from 5-7pm.
Qualifications: Applicant must be at least 25 years old and have at least three years of teaching experience in a camp or environmental education center setting. Must have knowledge of environmental education techniques and activities. Applicant must enjoy being with children in grades 3-12 and a desire to share outdoor experiences with them. Must have the ability to lead groups over rough terrain and be able to work both cooperatively and independently. Must be comfortable in a leadership role, have strong interpersonal skills, an enthusiastic and positive attitude, a love of nature and have a willingness to learn. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, computer skills in areas such as word processing, spreadsheets, and a strong commitment to high quality customer service. Current certification in Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid or an equivalent current certification is REQUIRED. Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) & Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) is required and provided by the SLA.
Schedule: This position will start June 5, 2017. Staff Training occurs June 10-23. Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 26- August 11. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Salary and Benefits: $440 per week. SLA benefits include use of canoes, kayaks, and store discount.
