Environmental Camp Leaders guide our Adventure Ecology Programs for campers in grades 3-12 The Junior Squam Lakes Association (JSLA) Adventure Ecology Programs focus on nature, ecological research, recreational skills, and teambuilding activities. Environmental Camp Leaders develop, plan, and implement age-appropriate nature-based activities, including hiking, backpacking, canoeing and kayaking, games and crafts. Environmental Camp Leaders supervise the health and safety of campers and must have a strong sense of safety. Must be able to provide leadership for campers and Leaders in Training (LIT). Each session includes one or two night off-site camp-outs on Wednesday/ Thursday nights. 

Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a clean driving record. Have an interest and general knowledge of natural history and/or education. Have or working toward a bachelor’s in environmental studies, biology, education or related field is a plus. Must have previous experience working with and enjoy being with children; have the ability to lead groups over rough terrain and be able to work both cooperatively and independently, have a positive attitude, love of nature, and a willingness to learn. Applicants must have experience in canoeing and kayaking encompassing a strong water safety experience. Current certification in Life-guarding, CPR and First Aid or an equivalent current certification is required. Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) & Sex Offender Registry Information (SORI) is required and provided by the SLA.

Schedule: Position starts with Staff Training June 10-23, 2017.  Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 26- August 10, 2017. Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Salary and Benefits: $320 per week salary.  SLA benefits include use of canoes, kayaks, and store discount.

The JSLA Environmental Leader position starts with staff training in early to mid June (Dates TBD) and ends on Monday, August 12, 2015. Due to the small nature of the program, taking time off during the summer makes staffing difficult. If you can not commit to the time requirements please do not apply.
