On January 15th, Squam Lakes Association LRCC AmeriCorps members & Program Manager, Katri Gurney, participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Day of Service coordinated by the AmeriCorps City Year program in Manchester, NH. Many state-wide non-profits and other AmeriCorps programs like LRCC participated in this full day event as an important way to honor Dr. King's life and legacy by giving back to the community.
LRCC AmeriCorps members were able to choose from a variety of service and workshop activities throughout the day such as participating in a food drive, collecting non-perishable items for the NH Food Bank. They also set up an information table at the Volunteer Fair portion of the event to help spread the word about the LRCC program. The Service Day was a great first experience for our new LRCC’ers to connect with other Americorps members around the state, and gain some valuable service work skills, all while representing the Squam Lakes Association's mission to conserve the Squam watershed through education, recreation, and watershed-wellness programs.
