Squam Cookie Decorating

Thursday, December 14th 3:30pm-5:30pm

Join us at the Squam Lakes Association for a Squam themed cookie decorating party with LRCC AmeriCorps member, Erin Shillings. Shortbread cookies will be supplied, as will all decorations and frosting, but feel free to bring anything of your own to decorate as well! As we’re in the midst of the holiday season, and we can create delicious treats sure to impress whoever is lucky enough to receive them (especially if they’re for you!). All ages are welcome, but the activity will be geared toward children 12 & under; just make sure to sign up in advance so enough cookies can be provided. All levels of experience are welcome as well. Erin will be able to teach some methods for more advanced cookie decorating if desired.

Our cookie designs are specially inspired by the Squam watershed. Whether you would like to decorate a loon, pine tree, maple leaf, canoe, moose, snowflake, or crayfish shaped cookie, there is something for everyone! These animals all play unique roles in the Squam watershed ecosystem, which we can learn about while we decorate. Canoes represent the part of SLA’s mission to encourage responsible recreation, and maple and pine trees are of course an integral part of the New England region.

At the end you will walk away with unique cookies and a new appreciation and way to express your love for the Squam Lakes region. We can talk about the importance of all of the cookie shapes we’re decorating and how they help make the Squam area so unique.

For more information, or to sign up for this Adventure Ecology Program, visit the SLA website (squamlakes.org) or contact the SLA directly (603-968-7336). The SLA also offers other Adventure Ecology events further into the fall/winter. These programs are open to the public and cover a variety of nature and conservation related topics. The Adventure Ecology programs are presented by the LRCC members who are spending up to a year on Squam Lake working on conservation efforts in support of the Association's mission.
