CYSP

The SLA is sad to announce our decision to cancel the CYSP 2020 Summer Youth Programs.

After extensive review of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and proposed camp protocols, we have come to the conclusion that no amount of careful preparation and safety precautions can eliminate the risk of a possible outbreak in our camps this summer. We do not want to endanger the health of our campers, staff and the surrounding community.

When it becomes safe to do so, we hope to offer small group experiences, most likely for family groups. For now, however, we will continue to connect with the SLA community through our Share Learn Adventure program, which you can find on our Facebook, Instagram and SLA website pages. We hope that our posts will inspire you and your family to learn about and explore a variety of nature topics, and we hope to see you and your families on the trails and the lake this summer (practicing social distancing of course!). We ask that you please share your photos, questions, ideas and inspirations with us, using the hashtag #ShareLearnAdventure!

For those of you who have paid for your camp registration, we thank you for your support of our programs, and offer three options for disbursement of your funds. Click here to email Leigh Ann and let her know what option works best for you.

1. Donate the registration fee and receive a tax deduction for the entire amount;

2. Apply the registration fee to next summer’s programs; or

3. Request a full refund of registration fee.

We thank you for all of your support and patience as we navigate these unchartered waters. We are already counting down the days to when we can resume our summer adventures with your children on our much beloved lake.

Wishing you all a safe & healthy summer!

COMMUNITY YOUTH SAILING PROGRAM

CYSP has inspired and prepared successful young sailors on Squam for close to two decades!  Our programs are taught to the level of each child and include all aspects from classroom instruction to hands-on water training and learning. By the end of the session, students are typically able to fully rig and sail the boats on their own. Our instructional fleet includes Optimist class boats for younger, less experienced sailors; and  Club Junior and Lightning class boats for older, more experienced sailors along with a sunfish and JY boats to round out the fleet. This program is instructional - we encourage parents to fully discuss this with their children prior to enrollment. We do ask that participants have swimming ability. All programs are open to the entire Squam Lakes community and surrounding area. Membership in the SLA is not required.

The watershed schools include: Ashland, Holderness, Inter-lakes, Moultonborough, Sandwich, and Plymouth. The MJ LaFoley Foundation generously donates one JSLA scholarship to a child from each school who exemplifies outstanding humanitarian qualities. Follow this link, http://www.mjfoundation.org/, to learn more about the MJ LaFoley Foundation. Thanks to individual donations and the Greater Lakes Region Children's Auction, the SLA is able to offer one JSLA and one CYSP scholarship to a child from each school who demonstrates good citizenship. If you are a NH resident and your child does not attend one of these schools there is a separate application process.

Another scholarship opportunity is the Douglas DiCenzo Camp Fund that supports families by providing partial scholarships for kids to go to camps/programs/activities.
